From August 15 to 19, MDSC, in partnership with Collettey’s Cookies and PwC Boston, was proud to hold the second installment of the Your Next Star (YNS) Employment Academy, with support from the Richard and Nancy Donahue Foundation, Massachusetts Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the Regan Family, the Gary Charles Pappalardo Fund, and the Sultan J. Begum Masood Fund. The Academy, which is part of the MDSC’s Philip Donahue Your Next Star Employment Center, provided experiential training for aspiring employees with Down syndrome and preparing them for competitive employment in the workplace.
Over the course of the week, the ten participants worked on everything from employment seeking skills, interpersonal and “people” skills, creative thinking, work ethic, teamwork, positivity, time management, problem-solving, financial literacy. Each graduate went home with a student workbook full of activities and a certificate of completion. In addition, we are following up with each participant individually to help them plan for the next step on their career path.
